Graduation Madness

I found this site today and thought it was interesting (link: Graduation Madness).

Basically, they are saying that corporate sponsors of college sports need to do something to help out with the academics of said sports teams. Not change the world, not make the university a top 10 academic university, just work to get academic standards met on the teams. The petition states:

As consumers, we request that Nike, Adidas, and Reebok sign on to the following statement of principles:

1. We recognize that as a sponsor, our company has a shared responsibility to ensure that collegiate basketball players graduate.

2. We pledge to provide financial incentives to our sponsored schools that consistently exceed minimal academic standards, as defined by the NCAA.

3. We pledge to terminate sponsorship deals with schools that consistently fail to meet minimal academic standards, as defined by the NCAA.

You may not agree with it totally, but its a pretty good ideal if you ask me.
