A Small Gripe

I am about to rant on something so meaningless, it will amaze, nay, astound you. And trust me, I guarantee at least 95% of you know exactly what I am talking about…

You know those stupid bluetooth headsets for cell phones? You know, the ones where they hang over your ear and its a little plastic thing with a light on it. I HATE those things. I think that they are the stupidest looking things in the world. I understand that they are really nice for certain people. While I was in Scotland, a lot of cabbies used them. Understandable, I think that’s a great place to use it…. In the car. The times you don’t need it: when no one is going to call you, when you are talking to people in person, when you shouldn’t be on the phone in the first place.

Case #1: I was riding the train home from Chicago last Monday night, and there was a guy on my car (mid-20s) who had one of those things on his ear. He didn’t use it once. He looked like an idiot with it on his ear.

Case #2: At the library, I was picking up a couple books. I was in one of the stacks in the reference section for probably 15 minutes, and the whole time, there’s this girl sitting at one of the tables with one of those things on. One of my biggest pet peeves is people on the cell phone at the library…. no blue tooth headset.

Case #3: I was at the bank depositing a check, and there’s a kid there (couldn’t be older than 15) with his mom, and he has a blue tooth headset on. Here’s the thing: he’s sitting at a desk opening an account. I don’t know about you, but if I am sitting there meeting with someone, I am not about to take out my cell phone and start talking to someone, so why would I need a bluetooth headset on. At that point, I would almost call wearing that damn thing rude. Granted, this is the same sort of kid who would walk into an interview with his iPod on…

But yeah, I think people need to start realizing that it doesn’t make you look cool to have one of those things hanging off your ear all the time. In fact, it kind of makes you look more unpopular for the sheer fact that I know that you have a cell phone in your pocket, and no one is talking to you…

I promised it would be a stupid rant.

Anyway, I leave for DC tomorrow and won’t be back until the 30th… Probably won’t have internet until then too. Hope you all stay well!
